I Refuse came from one of the hardest moments of my life. Five months after being laid off, I still did not have a job offer and was overwhelmed with anxiety and fear. When we got our first project, I was paralyzed by the thought of failing.
The fear became physical. I could not breathe, my heart raced, and I struggled to stand. My wife, Nicole, sat with me and helped me through it. I had never felt so weak and broken.
During that time, I found words in a translation of 2 Timothy 1:7 that stayed with me: “I refuse to give in to fear.” They became a bold reminder that God did not give me a spirit of fear. I needed to refuse to let fear control me and keep choosing to stand firm, even while battling anxiety and depression.
This shirt is a reminder that God is bigger than our circumstances. He has equipped us with the tools to stand firm. I want these words to remind me to show up, believe, and keep going.
